Full-Time position

Grade: Lecturer / Senior Lecturer

This is an outstanding opportunity for a creative person to join a unique school of Art and Design based in the centre of Moscow that has become a leading institution for design studies in Russia. You will be joining the British Higher School of Art and Design during an exciting  period of its development so we expect you will bring vision and drive to help us further develop the course, the school and its provisions. The School currently delivers BA programmes in Interior Architecture & Design, Product Design, Graphic Design & Illustration, Fashion Design and Fine Art.

As a fashion tutor it is expected that you are a highly specialist individual who has both professional and academic experience in the Fashion design industry, together with a proven track record of success and achievement. The course requires that you are at the leading edge of your discipline and that you are able to bring creative vision and design innovation to your teaching practice to enthuse, inspire and motivate students.

Salary rate: 35000-47000 GBP, depending on your grade and experience. Please note that the income tax in Russia is just 13% when you become a tax resident after 180 days spent in the country. The School provides visa support, medical insurance, air tickets and helps with finding accommodation.

Place of work: Moscow, Russia
The School is located close to the city centre, being just 1 stop from Red Square and within close proximity to several metro lines.

Start Date: If you are successful you will be expected to be settled in Moscow before the start of a new academic year (14 September, 2012) and suggest that you aim to arrive at the beginning of September.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The ability to deliver a full spectrum of teaching & learning experiences for students: lectures, seminars, practical workshops, demonstrations, individual guidance and tutorials;
  • To engage in course administration as required, this includes assessment & examination procedures, course planning and monitoring of student progress and performance;
  • To support students as a personal tutor and to offer pastoral & academic support;
  • To liaise with other members of technical and administrational staff;
  • To support the fashion department's open days and external promotion;
  • To attend course committee meetings as required;
  • To engage in external events as appropriate;
  • To supervise and participate in overseas study trips.

Qualifications & Essential skills

  • Recognised degree qualification in Fashion Design;
  • MA / Postgraduate Fashion Design (or professional equivalent);
  • Recognized teaching qualification (or significant equivalent experience);
  • Fashion design, Fashion illustration, Creative pattern cutting;
  • IT Skills (Mac or PC), Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, PhotoShop;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both with students and fellow staff members;
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team;
  • Ability to motivate, drive and support students.

Desirable Skills

  • Fashion Business & Marketing knowledge, use of Illustrator, InDesign.
